From Pinholes to Polaroids—a Brief History of Photo Printing

It’s hard to imagine a world without the photograph. And yet, photography has only been in existence for about 200 years. The first photographic image was produced in 1822 by the French Inventor Nicéphorus Niépce — “View from the Window at Le Gras” using a material that hardened on exposure to light. Not much further down the photographic timeline, in 1880, George Eastman sets up the Eastman Dry Plate Company now known as Kodak, and later introduces the first box camera. The rest is history. Kodak has many more notable milestones on the road to the printed photo as we know it today.

Kodak is known for their innovation and Kodak Wide-format Media employs the same pioneering technology and the same benefits that the first photographers looked for:

  • Archival properties of light-fastness and permanence
  • Wide color gamut to reproduce colors accurately
  • Lay-flat properties to avoid curling
  • Finishes—now available glossy, lustre, matte, metallic

When you think of photographic printing, you think of Kodak. Offer the time-tested quality and assurance of Kodak Wide-format Media.
