fake backgrounds, the back-to-school picture is the one photo print opportunity that endures. The printed school portrait is still a sentimental favorite that is not going anywhere. School pictures are still held dear and proudly displayed with copies given out to friends and family. They mark a special moment in time and capture our kid’s irrepressible selves as nothing else can.
Kodak Photo Paper is as traditional and timeless as the school portrait and has been used in schools for generations. Grandma’s school pictures carry the Kodak brand insignia on the back just as today’s school photos do. Over the years, photographers, schools, and printers have come to trust the Kodak brand for its exceptional print quality and longevity.
Keep the tradition alive and offer your customers the time-tested quality of Kodak Photo Paper:

June 29 is National Camera Day, a day that commemorates a device that has changed the world. Imagine life without that handy tool that you now carry in your pocket 24/7. George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, is known as “The Father of Photography” because, although he didn’t invent the camera, he brought it to the masses.
Kodak Wide-format Media celebrates photography every day of the year but especially on this flashy holiday, we thought it would be fun to share these fun foto facts.
Did you know:
- In 1900, the Kodak Brownie was released; the first camera affordable to the average person, it cost $1 and a roll of film cost 15¢.
- The first photo ever taken of the earth was captured by Lunar Orbiter I with a Kodak camera system.
- The word camera comes from camera obscura, which means "dark chamber." The first camera used a pinhole and a dark room.
- In 1888, George Eastman trademarked the name “Kodak”, a meaningless word that would soon be synonymous with photography and become one of the most recognizable brands in the world.
- Steve Sassen, an engineer at Kodak who worked in R&D, invented the digital camera.
Kodak Wide-format Media continues the Kodak legacy of photographic innovation and provides the brand quality you have come to know and expect throughout the years.

Rob Penner knows something about fine art printing. For the past 35 years, Penner has been involved in all facets of photography, printing, and fine art, from production to post-production. He started his career as a fashion photographer in New York in the heady days of the ‘70s; photographing the likes of Diana Ross and Bianca Jagger and frequenting Andy Warhol’s Factory and Studio 54. He attended Pratt Institute and started working in advertising doing graphic production where he learned all aspects of printing from traditional press to digital printing. He opened Beacon Fine Art Printing, specializing in digital archival printing, custom art reproduction, edition printing for artists, collectors and galleries while still doing his own personal photography.
“It’s helpful having experience on both sides of the coin, seeing things as a visual artist, then being able to turn them into a graphic production platform — taking someone’s idea and turning it into a tangible piece of art,” Penner explains.
He likes KODAK PROFESSIONAL Inkjet Photo Paper, Lustre, for his customers who frame their own work as it produces vibrant colors ensuring that colors captured in-camera or on a smart phone reproduce more accurately. KODAK PROFESSIONAL Inkjet Photo Paper, Lustre, has been updated to take advantage of the wider color gamut and improved ink technology of the latest generation of wide format printers from Canon, Epson and HP. KODAK PROFESSIONAL Inkjet Photo Paper, Lustre, has been independently tested for its archival properties of lightfastness and permanence.
